This must be a stable-mate of the difference between efficiency and effectiveness:
Efficiency is doing the thing right. Effectiveness is doing the right thing.
P.S. I always drop everything to read your articles.

Great to hear from you Jeff. I was just thinking of you today in connection to your weight loss program and what separates effective programs from those that don't work.

I'd be fine if you took over the world...at least when it comes to weight loss programs. Small steps first, eh?

Pls share your ebook w me, I'd love to read it!

w love

Thanks Judy. I usually have all 3 playing out at the same time in my head, but it's helpful to tease them apart from time to time just to keep things clear and organized in mind, and notice which one(s) might be feeling neglected. I tend to put alot of focus on tactics, whereas objectives could use a little more attention and articulation. Ie, "Take over the world" is not a clear objective. Nor is "Abolish obesity". ;)

Your post makes me consider the relationship *between* all 3 in terms of scope/context - E.g., the aforementioned world-domination objective being slightly too vague and high-level for which to develop reasonable and actionable strategies and tactics.

I'm going to go review things, with particular attention on making sure my objectives are clearly in concert with strategies and tactics.

Valuable post!

ps I've picked the Weight Loss program back up full steam, not much diff on the blog, just holding that stuff till I get the site up, but I've got an outline done for an ebook! Love to share it with you if you want, since you helped me soo much with the original idea!

Hi Nona,

I love that quote, too. When I start feeling overwhelmed by all these cool, new things I can do it really helps to ask "what's my objective here?" What will help the most to get there?

My husband and I were talking this morning about social media and "transparency." Although social media has been great in terms of outing factual information, it sucks at outing emotional information.

Still too easy to hide. I continue feeling that technology as it is currently remains the abode of the ego not the heart.

Love back atcha!

In an online world of seemingly endless ideas and opportunities to spend time and money, I loved this quote: “Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.”

I feel like I'm starting to get the hang of it... a little bit. ;p

Thanks, Judy, for always having such great and practical marketing wisdom!!

xoxo.
